I want to keep this section of my blog as a diary into what I have been doing, as a reminder but also help prompt me with ideas:
Apart from partying because that is the usual I am focusing on the things that I do which are aside from the normal day to day things people always experience
The blog starts from 14th July 2010 but I will also be discussing the summer and what is behind me such as festivals and trips away.
Currently I am travelling up to Campbell Town in Scotland on my way to a funeral, in a way I am looking forward to it because I will be meeting family that I haven’t seen since I was 4 years old. I am planning to take a lot of photo’s because I hear that the village is beautiful and this can perhaps be a good thing for my new summer project involving comparing the places I have gone with my own home.
Whilst there I was amazed by site and the view of the highlands. It was beautiful to see such open spaces that haven’t been effected much by people. The hills hold so much history and this fascinates me. This is so different to life where I live. I haven’t seen so much open space in England other than in Summerset but even so it was nothing to the extent of this. The way that the clouds hover around the tips of the hills and mountains is also a gorgeous site. It’s great being able to see the clouds properly with every bump and fold and wisp.
Not only is the scenery different but the culture in Scotland is also, even the ceremony at the funeral which involved a bagpipe player and male family members lowering the coffin into the ground, this isn’t done in England. Not only this but I felt that there was a really close bond within the family, each person is very close and keeps in contact all the time, whether this applies to a Scottish tradition or whether it is just that side of my family I’m not sure but it was great to see because I don’t have very much of that with my family in England, there’s always a few people that don’t talk. It has reminded me to keep family close because they will always be there.
Throughout the summer so far I have opened my eyes wider to the world of art, taking note of the creativity put into my surroundings and perfect examples of this are the music festivals that I have been to. The day University, ended the 10th of June I was in Castle Donnington at Download festival. It is situated on a race track and underneath the aeroplane take off area, this makes it interesting enough as in that one area there is so much going on, people taking off to go on holiday/business meetings/going home, and people playing music/people listening/people partying/people done with partying and feeling ill/people singing/dancing/playing games/loving/hating. This can go on for ages. And post festival the race track is used and people are racing cars, people are watching and cheering, some people are getting hurt. it’s a different setting but it is still an entertainment site.
Once you get into the festival there is art everywhere you look, whether it be posters, people performing on stage, the stage designs and backdrops as well as the art used to aid performance such as props. Here are a few photo’s showing the art involved.
On the 22nd June I had to travel to London so that I would be there at 6.30 the following morning for the coach to Glastonbury. Whilst I was in London I took myself to the National History Museum, I felt very grown up J and then I also went to Camden and to the Camden market. Camden is full of art and a hippy/punk culture, there are many stalls selling handmade products, they are fun to look at. Both these places I went to in London were full of art and creativity. In the national history museum there were sculptures of animals using life like materials such as silicone and rubber, the museum was also full of natural art such as precious stones and rocks found all over the world. They were magnificent and brought it to light that art is all around us but it is not always man made. Nature has created beautiful pieces.
The following day I made my way to Glastonbury festival! This is by far the best festival I have ever been to. The festival is like one big art gallery, but also the best art gallery I have ever been to.
Left lying around the festival are tons of sculptures that people have made:
There was also an area to Glastonbury called Shangri La which was like a shanti town and in each shack was a different kind of art piece. One area of the Shangri La was a crashed aeroplane and when I climbed into it there were loads of paintings:
There were also alot of banners that said great quotes, usually hippy things or just humourous ones. And of course there was also the music side of the festival which was amazing!
For the assigned summer project I looked into what is different from a festival and home. There are a lot and they are all very noticable to everyone which makes people hate going back home from festivals and back into reality. What makes these festivals so different from home is the atmopshere and the freedom to do whatever you want which in any other setting is not acceptible. At glastonbury festival I was supprised by the trust that the organisers had for the people visiting the festival. There are loads pretty, facinating and what could be valuble object just lying around the festival, but glastonbury is trusting that people won't steal them and usually people don't because of loving, peaceful atmosphere that it there.
Now leaving the festival's alone I want to also discuss the rest of my summer and what I have done:
I went on a family holiday to north Wales and travelled around there. We went to mount snowdon first which was beautiful and then we ended up in Llandudno which was also gorgeous.
